Fall Composting Workshop

  • MRLD Farm, Inc. 3 Menke Road (map)

Use Your Land To Create A “Soil Food Web”.

By starting this process in the fall, farmers are playing the long game. They're not just preparing for next spring; they're building a sustainable system that will improve soil health year after year. This approach reduces dependency on external inputs and aligns with the principles of regenerative agriculture. As the leaves turn and the harvest winds down, the most progressive farmers are already elbow-deep in their compost piles, cultivating the microscopic allies that will help their fields thrive in the seasons to come. In the world of agriculture, fall isn't an ending – it's the beginning of next year's success story.

Teas, Brews, and Microbial Diversity

This stratified approach to composting allows farmers to create specialized compost teas and brews throughout the growing season. Need a boost of young, vigorous microbes for early spring growth? There's a pile for that. Looking for more mature, fungal-dominated compost for orchard applications? That's available too.

The Compost Countdown

Autumn is the perfect time to start drying and processing organic material from the harvest. Corn stalks, soybean residue, and even fallen leaves become valuable resources in the hands of a forward-thinking farmer. By carefully scheduling the composting process, farmers can ensure a steady supply of nutrient-rich material throughout the fall and winter months.

Jimmy Schmidt is a visionary

in the field of regenerative agriculture, dedicated to advancing sustainable farming practices through a biological approach. His commitment to improving soil health and promoting ecological balance is evident in his expertise in regenerative techniques, which focus on enhancing biodiversity and working harmoniously with natural systems.

As an innovator, Jimmy has developed a state-of-the-art plant and farm data management platform that empowers farmers with the tools they need to make informed, data-driven decisions. This platform not only optimizes crop production but also supports sustainable practices, ensuring that farmers can enhance their productivity while preserving the environment.

Jimmy's academic journey has further solidified his standing as an expert in his field. He has successfully completed Dr. Elaine's Soil Food Web School Certified Lab program, gaining a profound understanding of soil microbiology and its critical role in plant health. Currently enrolled in the Consultant Training Program, he is expanding his skills to provide tailored solutions that help farmers implement regenerative practices effectively.

Through his dedication and innovative spirit, Jimmy Schmidt is not only transforming agricultural practices but also inspiring a movement towards a more sustainable and regenerative future. His efforts are setting a new standard in the industry, demonstrating that it is possible to cultivate a productive agricultural system that benefits both the planet and its people.
